Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When is it held?
History Alive is held annually over the second weekend in June each year. This year, our living history event will be held over Saturday 9 and Sunday 10, 2018.
What time does it start?
The gates open at 9:30am each day, with the program starting at 10am.
How much are tickets?
You can find all the ticket prices, here.
Where is it held?
History Alive is held at Fort Lytton National Park – corner of Lytton Road and South Street, Lytton. The Fort was built in the 1880s to stem fears of a Russian attack on British colonies in the Pacific and is an important piece of Brisbane’s history.
Is parking available?
Yes! The FREE Visitor Car Park location is ALWAYS OFF SITE with a FREE Shuttle Bus Service provided to and from the Event.
I have a Australian Disability Parking Permit, where can I park?
The Shuttle Bus Service will drop visitors right to the entrance of History Alive. However, if you have a wheelchair, you can park on site at Fort Lytton. Please have your permit displayed clearly so our traffic controllers can direct you through.
Will the buses take prams?
Yes! Our Shuttle Bus Service is very modern with air conditioning, seat belts and provision for prams and disabled passengers.
How can we get to Fort Lytton?
Take a look at the parking page.
Can I bring my own weapon? Like a sword or replica gun?
Sorry, NO. Those items will have to be left at home as Fort Lytton is a national park.
Is food available?
Yes. There are food vendors on site, so you can have a fuss free day. We also have vendors selling other items, such as armour and weapons, pottery, jewellery and historical models.
Is eftpos available?
Eftpos is available to buy tickets at the gate and an ATM will be available in the Food Court area.
Is there shade available?
As Fort Lytton is national park, there are plenty of trees around the site and we provide marquees with tables and chairs in the food court. However, there is no shade around the main arena, so please bring an umbrella or a hat and sunscreen.
Is there wheelchair access?
Yes, there is a road around the perimeter of the site and the grassed areas are flat.
What should I wear?
We suggest comfortable clothing and shoes. Also remember, even though it is winter the sun’s rays are still strong so don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat.
Do you honour companion cards?
Absolutely, just show them at the gate.
Can I smoke at History Alive?
Sorry, smoking & e-cigarettes are NOT permitted at History Alive. This is because Fort Lytton is a National Park and, as such, it is a smoke free zone.
